Samsung Galaxy S9 is under development, and company’s love affair with Qualcomm is still ‘On.’ Despite the competition between both companies in mobile processor market both of them are also very good partners as they need each other.
Samsung needs Qualcomm to sell its smartphones in US market, and Qualcomm needs Samsung to to manufacture (and also purchase) its chips. When such necessities meet, why wouldn’t there be an affair? No surprise that Sammy got Snapdragon 835 before anyone else to load into its flagship, and now there’re rumors that same thing may happen once again.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Processor Leaked info
That’s right – if Weibo user I ice universe is to be believed (and he has been reliable track record), Samsung and Qualcomm have once again struck a deal in which Samsung will receive the very first batches of Snapdragon 845 chips. This may be bad news for LG, one of Sammy’s traditional rivals, as the story of this year may be repeated once again in 2018.
Earlier this year LG had to release its flagship G6 smartphone with Snapdragon 821 processor due to Qualcomm’s tryst with Samsung. Other manufacturers also had to delay the launches of their devices so they can get Snapdragon 835 after Samsung.
But again, it’s just a leak and not confirmation. In the world of tech everything changes at rapid pace, so we can’t be so sure about it as of now. This leak also contradicts previous reports which had suggested that it was LG-Qualcomm duo that was working on Snapdragon 845 and not Samsung.
May be that report was wrong, may be this one is wrong or may be both are right. We don’t know that as of now. However, one thing can’t be denied – it’ll be a very interesting scenario if both reports turn out to be true, because in that case LG G7 and Samsung Galaxy S9 both will come with Snapdragon 845. In other words, it’ll be a clash of equals!
Spoiler Alert: Modules Ahead
But Snapdragon 845 isn’t the only thing which has leaked about Galaxy S9. There’re more interesting leaks as well.
According to another leak coming from Slashgear, Galaxy S9 is likely to come with modular design. This is both a major warning sign and something to be excited about. At a time when other manufacturers are thinking about pulling the plug on modules, Samsung is likely to push the plug in and enter the dangerous territory with its first flagship of next year.
It’s a big risk – If company’s approach to modules is different and more effective then it can turn out to be a huge victory, but if it also faces the same fate as other modular smartphones then Samsung will have a bad start of next year. Either things are about to go super awesome, or they’re about to be blown up. It’ll be interesting to see which way they go.
And yes, this is also a very vague rumor at this stage, We can’t predict Smartphones future yet in 2018. So please take it with a pinch of salt!
