HTC U12, which will be the successor of company’s U11 smartphone and its first flagship phone for this year, is about to be launched in next few months.
However, company’s fans are already excited about it. There have been several rumors about it, but as of now, not much is known about this device. So we’re trying to collect whatever is known about it in this article to give you an idea of what this phone is going to be like. Let’s begin:
U12 or Something Else: What will it be called?
When it comes to naming schemes, HTC is highly unpredictable. There has been an HTC One M9, then HTC 10, then HTC U11 and most recently HTC U11 EYEs, so we can’t predict what company’s next flagship will be called. There’s also very little evidence to confirm that it will be called HTC U12. This name has actually been derived from a DigiTimes report only. Right now all that we have about its name is a codename being used internally by the company to work on the phone. And that codeword is Imagine, which was leaked recently by famous leaker Evan Blass:
It’s Imagine. What did I win? 😉 https://t.co/S9nOzxRLoA

While it’s not a marketable product name, it’s worth keeping an eye on. For the sake of this article, we’ll call it HTC U12 only and nothing else.
HTC U12 Rumored Specs
Though there has not been much discussion about the specifications of this device, it’ll be safe to assume that HTC U12 will have Snapdragon 845 processor underneath. Other specs may include 4GB RAM, 5.5 (or maybe 5.7) inches large display with 18:9 aspect ratio, dual-lens cameras on both front and rear sides and 3,500 mAh (or higher) battery.
HTC U12 Rumored Features
The device is likely to have many unique features. Narrow bezel display with 4K resolution is one of them, and rumors of such a display in HTC U12 have appeared multiple times. Other features may include stereo speakers with BoomSound HiFi edition, USB Type-C, and USonic headphones. The device is also rumored to support 5G, thanks to the appearance of an unlaunched HTC device at a 5G event in Taiwan.
And finally, it’s expected that HTC U12 will have a Liquid Surface just like its predecessor and a number of other HTC phones. This premium quality glass gives a very elegant and unique look to company’s devices, so it’s obvious that it’ll be used in U12 too. IP68 waterproofing is also expected to be a feature of this phone.
HTC U12 Expected Price
Being a flagship HTC U12 will obviously be priced like one. Expect it to cost more than $700. Rest will become clear when more details emerge about the specs of this device. But it’s very unlikely that it will cost anything less than $700.
HTC U12 Release Date
The company is not holding any event at MWC, so HTC U12 is clearly not coming at it. This also makes sense, because it will save the company from going head-to-head with Samsung. So if not at MWC, then when? Well, nobody knows exactly. Expect it to come in March or April. Or may be a bit more late – we just don’t know anything concrete as of now.
