After success of its 3310 feature phone last year HMD Global, the company now in charge of Nokia brand, is betting on nostalgia once again. This time with Nokia 8110 Banana phone that was used in The Matrix. So after a long time of 22 years Nokia 8110 is back, but this time with a smarter and more sophisticated set of features. Let’s take a look on what all it offers.
First of all I’d like to tell you that it’s still a feature phone, running a forked version of Firefox OS. Never heard the name of this OS? No problem, you’re not alone. HMD is calling it a “Smart Feature OS” that will provide you all the essentials of your smartphone on your fingertips. So it’s not your traditional feature phone.
To get started, it supports 4G. Then there’s a large number of apps. Nokia says a version of Facebook made especially for it will be available soon through an app store, and access to Google Assistant, Search, Maps and Gmail will also be available on it. Twitter and Snake will also be present on this feature phone.
You can slide its cover from the keyboard to answer the calls, and then slide it back into its place when you’re done talking. Overall it’s a device that can make you forget your smartphones on the weekend by providing a fun way of communication with the peace of having essential smartphone features on your fingertips if you need them. The company said:
“The Nokia 8110 comes with the craftsmanship you expect from a Nokia phone, delivering durability and reliability as standard. With a familiar and easy to use interface, it features intuitive tactile mechanics, with slide to answer and end calls, as well as an addictive helicopter style spin on its axis. It’s a great weekend phone that gives you the chance to switch off, have fun and relax in the knowledge that all your smartphone essentials are there when you need them”.
Nokia 8110 will be available in Black and Banana Yellow colors from May for £69 (€79). It will be interesting to see whether it can repeat the success of 3310 or not.
