Xiaomi Mi 6X and Redmi Note 5 Pro are excellent budget offerings from the Xiaomi. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has two great phones in the segment that it distances every other competitor in that segment and has the fight between itself.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro was undoubtedly the budget king until Mi 6X came out this month to rival its own younger sibling. Though Redmi Note 5 Pro had a lot of competition with the overcrowded Huawei phones in the segment it managed to rise high as an overall package. The Redmi Note 5 Pro has a stellar camera in the segment, battery life that can last a day even with the most intensive use. It has also got the global debut, Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 in it. The build is good and the cameras to be said precisely won over the competitors with a great dynamic range and true colors. It also has EIS which is very rare in the segment but lacks at 4k recording.
This victory of the Redmi Note 5 Pro did not last long when 6X launched late April, most of the ‘good’s of the Redmi Note 5 Pro had to be replaced with Mi 6X’a “better” for a slightly heavier price. Yeah, it did almost everything better marginally. Now we will have a deeper comparison between the two smartphones. Let us not leave out on the similarities and start with that.
The display, it is the same on both. 5.99-inch- tall 18:9 aspect ratio display on both with a resolution of 2160 * 1080 or FHD+. No official word is given on whether same panels are used in both, we expect it to be so.
The design, you can’t make the difference between both the device at the first glance. They are like first copies of each other. Both have a 2.5d glass curving to the edges fitted to a metallic back. There are minor differences though- Mi 6X has a metal unibody which the other lacks. The Xiaomi Mi 6X is considerably thinner with a smaller battery and adversely the camera bump protrudes more on it sadly.
Other commons include the IR blaster, buttons and the MI UI 9.5 which is the latest from Xiaomi.
What makes the difference?
The difference in the heart is the processor itself, 6X has the superior Snapdragon 660 while Redmi Note 5 Pro runs on Snapdragon 636 which is no slouch when comes to multitasking and gaming. For the RAM + storage combination too both have 4 and 6 Gb variants with 64 and 128 Gb options with Redmi Note 5 Pro starting with a 3+32 Gb variant.
Next comes the game changer, cameras. The Redmi Note 5 Pro has 12+5 MP rear setup and the 6X has a 12+20MP rear camera with the secondary camera having its own function as a telephoto camera rather than helping the primary sensor in depth sensing. The front cameras on the 6X are the same 20MP sensor from the rear this time with a normal lens making great selfies with tons of packed in features.
The battery is different too. This is the only place Redmi Note 5 Pro seems to win the 6X having 4000 and 3010 mAH batteries respectively.
What to look out for?
If you are good enough with the cameras, performance and great battery life of the Redmi Note 5 Pro, go for it and you won’t regret your decision. If you are one like me, very nit-picky about the slightly better unibody design, marginally better performance and cameras and can live with a battery life estimated for a day and ready to stretch the budget a bit, then Mi 6x is the way to go.
