When Xiaomi launched its first Android One smartphone Mi A1 back in September 2017, no one had anticipated it. People were expecting a new flagship/mid-range smartphone under Mi brand, but not a smartphone under Android One program. It was a unique combination – Xiaomi’s high-quality devices, and Google’s guarantee of timely updates. It was a unique proposition in the mid-range segment, and therefore, it also attained some serious amount of success in comparison to its predecessors.
Now in 2018, the company is expected to launch its successor Mi A2. What can we expect from this device? Well, almost everything that was offered by its predecessor, plus some new things as well. In this article we’ll take a look at all those things:
Xiaomi Mi A2 Expected Features
A narrow-bezel display with 18:9 aspect ratio is likely to be among the biggest features of this device. Dual-lens primary camera has already been a feature of this series, so it’ll obviously be present in this upcoming smartphone too. And there will also be the feature of stock Android experience, guaranteeing timely updates under Android One program.
Xiaomi Mi A2 Expected Specs
While it’s very early right now to talk about the specs of this device, we can make some educated guesses about it by taking a look on the specs of its predecessor and the direction of the budget smartphone market. The Mi A1 comes with a Snapdragon 625 processor and 4GB RAM, which is a very common configuration in the mid-range segment.
Now in 2018 Qualcomm is about to launch its better processors for this segment, namely Snapdragon 640 and Snapdragon 670. There’s a chance that either of these can be used in Mi A2. The RAM is likely to be retained at 4GB, but the display size may be increased from 5.5 inches to 6-inches. The display resolution may also be bumped to 2,160 x 1,080 pixels from the Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 px) resolution that’s found in A1.
As far as cameras are concerned, Mi A2 is likely to retain the 12mp dual lens primary camera, but hopefully, its functionality may be improved this time to make it better. The Mi A1 came with a dual-lens primary camera but failed to deliver the kind of photography capabilities that were expected from it.
Xiaomi Mi A2 Price
Just like its predecessor, Xiaomi Mi A2 will also be priced in the mid-range segment. It may be a little costlier than its predecessor, but it will still be in the same price bracket of Rs. 15,000 – Rs. 20,000 INR.
Xiaomi Mi A2 Release Date
Right now Xiaomi is busy in working on a number of interesting smartphone launches, which include Redmi Note 5 and Mi 7. So Mi A2 will be launched only after that, probably in August or September when the company had launched its predecessor. We’ll let you know when we hear something about it.
