It seems that February is going to be the month of only two smartphone makers this year: Samsung and Xiaomi. While Samsung will be on the minds of everyone for launching its Galaxy S9 flagship, Xiaomi has planned the launch of two great flagship smartphones in this particular month. One of them is Mi 7, which is expected to debut at MWC, and the other is… guess what… a successor of Mi Mix 2!
Yes – if rumors are anywhere close to reality, the company is going to refresh its merely 4 months old Mix 2 flagship smartphone with an “S” version in February. The device, which is expected to be known as Mi Mix 2S, is likely to be launched before Mobile World Congress. And based on the image which has leaked along with this information, it’s looking more stunning than its predecessor, thanks to its almost 100% screen-to-body ratio.
This information was first reported by Chinese tech news website GizmoChina from citation of a Weibo tipster. The render image shown above, on the other hand, is courtesy of Slashleaks. The tipster confirmed that a Mix 2S launch is on the cards, possibly before MWC, and then he asked the followers to guess which device will be first to run Snapdragon 845 among Mi 7 and Mix 2S. Undoubtedly, it will be Mi 7. Mix 2S is very unlikely to be launched with SD 845 because Mix 3 is already rumored to come with it 4-5 months later. Therefore, this ‘S’ device should stick with Snapdragon 835 right now.
On the other hand, a render image of the device also leaked on Slashleaks, showing notable changes in the design language. The front is made almost entirely of screen this time. There’s hardly any bezel on both top and bottom sides even, primarily because the front camera has been relocated to the top right corner, creating a tiny notch in that corner. Rest is all screen. Earlier it was rumored that Mix 2S will have an iPhone X like notch, but with this image the rumor seems to have been busted. The back of device seems to be made of ceramic once again, with a single-lens camera and fingerprint sensor in the middle.
It will be interesting to see how ahead of MWC it’s launched by Xiaomi. We’ll let you know when official launch date is revealed, so keep checking back.
